Ahoy, Mateys!
Time to shine yer cutlass and practice yer “arr’s.” Why? ‘Cause our day is comin’ up, ye bearded buccaneers and swashbucklers. “International Talk like a Pirate Day” is on the horizon. Watch out for this global holiday on Wednesday, September 19th. The Cap’n and his crew might also have a bit of a surprise for ye scallywags.
But now to the important stuff: how do ye properly carouse on “International Talk like a Pirate Day?”
First of all, ye must stock up on rum and ale. A few lonely barrels won’t do for this purpose. Next invite yer best mates and fellow pirates and don’t forget the ladies. Remember, carousing without women is like drinking rum without… err… the rum.
If ye don’t have a pirate name yet – Peg Leg Bates, One-Eyed Wonder, Ol’ Sourpuss, Cap’n Scumbucket are all good examples – pick one immediately.
Next, ye must learn to talk like a pirate (and be able to understand yer fellow pirates).
Arr! – That’s right!
Ahoy! – Yo!
Avast! – Check it out!
As ye can see, we pirates exclaim a lot. Mateys, it’s not only about using the right verbiage, but also the right attitude. (Ye need the proper pirate ‘tude, if ye know what I mean.) The Cap’n found this here message – not in a bottle, but on the Interwebs – that can help ye talk properly: https://www.wikihow.com/Talk-Like-a-Pirate
It’s always good to have a few pirate jokes to regale yer buccaneers with. The Cap’n has some examples for ye:
Q: How much did the pirate pay for his piercings? A: A buck-an-ear.
Q: What's a pirate's favorite movie? A: Booty and the Beast.
Q: Why couldn't the 10-year-old go to the pirate movie? A: Because it was rated arrrrrrr.
Q: How do you make a pirate really mad? A: Take away the ‘p’.
Ye gonna need more jokes and sayings (and maybe help pronouncing it all correctly) for a good pirate merry-making. This Interweb page can help ye: http://homepage.westmont.edu/bstrine/yarrgh/
For all things “International Talk like a Pirate Day” ye can check out their site: http://talklikeapirate.com/wordpress/
Now make the Cap’n and his crew proud and plan an “International Talk like a Pirate Day” for the ages. One that pirates will still sing pirate shanties about over pints of ale and rum years from now.
May fair winds always fill yer sails!
The Cap’n
